Does Caffeine Stunt Your Growth? – Busting The Myth

January 13, 2021 by Ana S.

Caffeine is widely mispresented. There is a myth about caffeine and coffee that it stunts your growth. If not talking scientifically, with common sense we can bust this myth. For more clarity, we will look deep into the matter and clear the air whether caffeine stunt your growth or not. Does coffee stunt your growth

Coffee is a caffeinated beverage, and usually, we hear people say that it can affect your growth. However, we agree that excessive intake of coffee or caffeinated drinks can harm your system. As a whole, we cannot claim that coffee is responsible for this act. There can be hundreds of other reasons as well.

The main prospect of people is osteoporosis. They say that coffee or caffeine causes this disease, which eventually shortens your height. This thing is not the whole truth. However, we do not deny that this disease exists, but we cannot blame coffee or caffeine wholly for this.

Caffeine and growth

Caffeine is an excellent source of alertness and awakeness. On the contrary, there can be some side effects as well. We are not of the view that it has some severe side effects.

Scientifically speaking, caffeine mainly affects your central nervous system making it more alert, awake, and cognitively fast. Among a few minor side effects of excessive caffeine intake are insomnia, disturbed sleep cycles, headaches, etc.

Now we need to look for the connection between stunts of growth and caffeine. What happens is that when you have an excessive intake of caffeine, then the calcium absorption of your body gets lower. Bones function on calcium. Therefore fewer calcium contents may affect their activities.

Again, we have another story behind that, coffee drinkers or caffeine intakers may not be having their diary diet properly. This deficiency can cause osteoporosis but not caffeine wholly.

Does coffee make you short?

We pity those who blame coffee for everything wrong. We ask you that do we give coffee to our infants? Obviously, no, we do not. The growing period of the children is way before they start consuming coffee.

Using common sense, we must understand that our bones, height, and physique are already on track before we start consuming caffeine. We have bones in our body, not, ice which will melt away and shorten your height.

Also, it is not only coffee that has caffeine in it. There are several sodas, carbonated drinks, or even tea ha caffeine contents. So won’t it be rude to blame coffee only?

Health Issues Related to Caffeine

We are not neglecting the health issues we can face due to caffeine. Therefore we are highlighting the main health issues related to caffeine here in our write-up. First thing first, that anything in excess will harm you. So do not disrespect coffee after knowing the health issues. These only occur when you are excessively consuming caffeine content.

Anxiety

Caffeine makes you awake and highly alert. Continuous intake of caffeinated products may cause harm to your mental states. Anxiety is one of them; you become extra alert and concerned. The fight or flight hormone is highly active in such conditions.

The foremost reason for this health issue is the high intake of caffeine. Regularly, a person can intake around 300mg of caffeine. On the other hand, this issue arises when your input goes upto1000mg daily.

The victim may suffer from symptoms of high-stress levels, increase in heart rate. We are bringing into your notice that despite having controlled intake of caffeine, intolerant people may experience these symptoms.

Insomnia

Excessive caffeine intake may disturb your sleep cycle. The central nervous system is under the speel of caffeine, which keeps it awake and alert. By this, you face difficulty in sleeping.

Insomnia may affect your health badly as your brain needs some rest. For rest, you need to sleep, and high caffeine intake stops you from this. Ideally, caffeine stays in your body for about 5 hours. You can manage your caffeine intake accordingly.

Try to have your coffee or any caffeinated drink about 6-7 hours before bedtime. In this way, you can prevent the disturbance in your sleep cycle. Monitoring your acts and routine can help you fight insomnia.

High blood pressure and heartbeat

The nervous system controls your body system. Caffeine attacks the most vital part that is your nervous system. Due to its effect, your heartbeat can increase, and blood pressure may also get higher.

Caffeine sensitive people may face severe effects even with small doses. So the severity of the impact may vary from amount to dose and person to person.

Other than these, different digestive problems may occur, vomiting, bloating, fatigue, excessive urination, etc.

Remember, all these issues arise when you are consuming high amounts of caffeine regularly. Otherwise, if you are taking it in a controlled manner, then there is no harm.

Decaf coffee for kids

We cannot stop the soul from the love of coffee. Some kids want to copy their adults and taste coffee. For their satisfaction, we can give them small amounts of coffee. It will get better if the coffee is decaf. Wait, do we call it coffee if it’s decaffeinated? No, coffee cannot be decaf.

To please the innocent souls, we can reduce the amount of caffeine in their drinks. For this purpose, we can add a lot of milk and cream in it. Other than this, we can add more than less coffee to their brew. By this, we can go both ways.

Again we will recommend that monitor your child’s reaction to coffee. If that is not alarming, then there is no harm in giving a little coffee once in a blue moon.

Conclusion:

On the contrary, we conclude that caffeine does not stunt your growth. There is no direct relation between the nourishment of a body and caffeine. However, excessive caffeine intake may jitter your body system.

Coffee does not make you short. You develop in your early years, and at that time, you feed on milk, not coffee. We know osteoporosis is a dangerous disease, but coffee or caffeine is not entirely responsible for it.

Excess of everything is terrible, so try to have control over your caffeine intake. Take care of your diet, balance your nutrients and pleasures. By this, you can get away with all the health-related issues without blaming caffeine and coffee.
